Nel libro si racconta di una delle fiabe popolari russe, della «Fiaba di Jeruslàn Làzarevich» («Сказка о Еруслане Лазаревиче»). Nel corso di tre secoli questa fiaba esisteva in Russia, enrò nelle raccolte dei testi manoscritti russi come epos orale. A partire dal XVIII secolo fu più volte elaborata. Questa fiaba la conosceva Aleksandr Pushkin. Nel XIX secolo la «Fiaba di Jeruslàn Làzarevich» in migliaia copia fu esaurita per tutta la Russia in forma che si riferisce al «lubòk» («лубок» o il «lubok», la stampa popolare russa, ebbe grande diffusione a tutti i livelli della societa ed è uno strumento privilegiato per accostarsi al fascino della cultura russa). Nello stesso tempo la fiaba continuava a trasmettere di generazione in generazione verbalmente, a viva voce.
